Elixir Instructions
Did you just get your own bag of chocolate elixir, but you aren't sure or perhaps easily forgot how to make it? Never fear! Our general directions on each bag will provide the instructions to prepare your elixir. But below are some additional answers, tips and tricks to making the perfect cup!
How to prepare your Elixir:
For our Mesoamerican blends, in house we use only hot water as they historically would have been made. Additionally we use unsweetened organic almond milk for the majority of the European and Contemporary blends. You can of course use any liquid you prefer- experiment and have fun!
You can enjoy one serving at a time, or even spoon into coffee but we suggest that you make the entire batch (6- 3oz. servings or 18 total ounces) at one time as it is more difficult to heat and froth 3oz. of liquid.
Either way the most important step is the frothing and incorporation of the chocolate and spices into your hot liquid. You can froth with a whisk, one of our traditional Molinillos, a mini immersion blender, or even shake in a lidded Mason jar (be careful it will be hot to handle). The key is mix/froth a lot and aggressively! Do not boil the liquid as it will burn the chocolate. If you make the entire batch, you can store any leftovers in a jar in the fridge then shake and pour out what you want to reheat. The constituted liquid elixir will keep in your fridge for 10-14 days.
